WE ARE CERTIFIED FIDUCIARIES
Our CFP and CPA professionals have met these strict requirements mandated by the CFP Board and NASBA (National Association of State Accountancy Boards):
EDUCATION & EXAMINATION
CFPS professionals must develop their theoretical and practical financial planning knowledge by completing a comprehensive course of study at a college or university offering a financial planning curriculum approved by the CFP Board. In addition, they must pass a comprehensive two-day, 10-hour CFP® Certification Examination that tests their ability to apply financial planning knowledge in an integrated fashion.
Far CPAS, these requirements include: completing a program of study in accounting at a college or university, passing the Uniform CPA Exam, and obtaining a specific amount of professional work experience in public accounting.
The CPA Examination serves to protect the public interest by helping to ensure that only qualified individuals become licensed as Certified Public Accountants (CPAS). The Uniform CPA Exam is one of the “Three E’s” – Education, Examination, and Experience – that are required for licensure as a CPA. Consequently, passing the Examination is not, in itself, sufficient to meet requirements for licensure.
EXPERIENCE & ETHICS
CFP® professionals must have at least three years of experience providing financial planning services to clients before they can earn the right to use the CFP8 certification marks. As a final step to certification, CFP8 professionals agree to abide by a strict code of professional conduct known as the CFP Board’s Code of Ethics and Professional Responsibility and agree to abide by the CFP Board’s Financial Planning Practice Standards.
All CPAs are also required to observe the Code of Ethics established by the Board of Accountancy.
In addition, CFP and CPA professionals must renew their certification every two (CFP) or three (CPA) years. As part of the renewal process, they are required to complete numerous hours of continuing education over those 2–3-year time frames, as well as fulfilling ethical obligations.
OUR INTERNATIONAL DIVISION
NCP recognizes the trend of Americans retiring overseas is growing, as their retirement dollars often go further in locations outside the US. In some countries, such as Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and Ecuador, there are many expat communities, with populations often in the thousands. While most of these ex-patriot Americans are retired, they still need guidance on many financial issues, and NCP regularly conducts educational dinners and classroom presentations in these locations to serve those growing communities.
